Hedge Funds go Hollywood

A new piece, by way of Fintag, about Tom Cruise's row with Viacom and hedge fund financing in the movie business. An entertaining read, but I think we've talked about this before.

If you haven't heard about it, there are actually CDOs on the cash flows generated by movies and games. Apparently 300 was partially financed this way.

Ahh, the beauty of securitization.

While that's all good and fine, I'd hate to see the performance numbers on these. I wholeheartedly agree with Equity Private on this matter.

You'd think people would learn from all the stories of these endeavors that have failed in the past, or some rich person trying to bring their money from some successful business to Hollywood only to find out that its even more political than Washington, DC.

Maybe Branson's quote about the fastest way to become a millionaire should be adjusted to say "invest in movie production".
